Comedy Throwdown ComedySportz is known for the competitive edge it brings to improv comedy. This week, a few more comedy troupes are getting in on the game. August 7-9, ComedySportz is hosting The Comedy Theater Challenge. Top comedy theaters in the area will be competing with the ComedySportz game in a friendly improv challenge in front of a live audience.

Funny Tunes Wonder what good stuff we have in store for you at LAFS RIOT in October? Here’s a taste. One of our scheduled performers, comedy band The Shock T’s, has just released their debut pilot. Loosely based off their own experience, the pilot is the story of a music comedy band trying to make it in Chicago. It’s got all the fun of a live Shock T’s show neatly compressed into a 23 minute video for your viewing convenience.

Anything Goes If you can’t decide what kind of comedy you’re in the mood for, The Kickback might just be your thing. This Thursday, July 31st, The Kickback takes on a talk show/showcase/variety show format, welcoming all types of comedy — improv, sketch, standup, you name it. Host, Chris Redd, welcomes the best of Chicago comedy to perform new material as Redd throws surprise challenges at them throughout the show. Redd is developing the show to eventually be a touring production.

A COMEDY-FILM NOIR MASHUP Claymore Productions is back with a moody and surreal follow-up to their New York Television Festival award-winning show, Exquisite Corpse. Josh, Tyler, Peyton and Brian have bestowed upon the internet the trailer for their new pilot Wrong Place. The show follows landlord Fats in the dark journey of his day-to-day life. If comedy and film noir came together to create a new genre, (comedy noir, perhaps?) this would be it.
