I met Jet at her apartment where she lives with her improviser beau, Brett Elam and his sister Erica. We chatted about where her name came from, some of life’s big questions, drinking sake before bed to live longer and then she told me the details of the secret she’s been keeping from everyone for the last two years…
I admit that I haven’t been to my fair share of Second City shows. I’ll also admit that one of the biggest reasons why is because, in general, I have a hard time enjoying sketch comedy. Lastly, I will admit that, to my delighted surprise, this revue was very well received by this lady.
It took quite a while to coordinate a time with Irene where we were both available to sit down and chat. We ended up meeting at Cozy Noodles, around the corner from iO where she actually introduced me to their baby eggrolls and now I order them on a regular basis. (Thanks Irene.) While she quickly ate between her Assistant Manager shift at iO and teaching class at the Annoyance, we discussed life dreams, career goals and how this journey began when she was just a “munchkin.”
I met Micah at his theatre, pH Comedy Theatre, in Andersonville, on a Saturday afternoon. Our interview started informally as we just casually talked about the beauties and addictive nature of this art form and how it can accidentally become almost cult-like. However, we both agreed that it also happens to change people’s lives and life plans and both Micah and myself know this all too well.
If anyone has seen Improvised Shakespeare, The Beatbox or HATERADE, it should be no surprise then that Andy Carey and Ross Bryant have come together again to put on a rap show for your viewing pleasure. (And if you haven’t seen the previously mentioned shows, might I recommend that you do so.) I personally am a sucker for hip-hop and then you tell me it’s improvised hip-hop, honey, you just made my day. These two pull suggestions out of the crowd throughout the performance to fuel their raps and then they’re off.
