Solo Sketch Tourney
The Playground Theater brings you Give Me 500, a weekend long celebration of solo sketch comedy. This event will be held Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd. Cash prizes and the honor of being the inaugural Give Me 500 Champion will be doled out at the conclusion of the event.
Give Me 500 was inspired by the Playgrounds cult hit The Give Me 5 (Wednesdays at 10PM). For over three years and 13 season of the show, Give Me 5 has given over 400 of Chicago’s comedians/improvisers 5 minutes to do the funniest comedic set they can think of. Show times for The Give Me 500 will be Friday August 1st every hour on the hour starting at 7pm until 1am Saturday morning. Saturday, August 2nd, showtimes will begin at 1pm and continue every hour on the hour until 6pm. Final rounds will be at 8pm and 10pm.
The preliminary rounds Friday and Saturday will feature eight performers doing five minute sets. Admission to the preliminaries will be $5. The Final rounds will feature the winners of all the preliminary rounds, admission will be $15.
The Finals of The Give Me 500 will be judge by various Chicago Comedy Theaters Artistic Directors, Casting Agents, Mangers and various other Chicago comedy dignitaries. Judges names will be released shortly. Improv is King in Chicago but solo sketch comedy has definitely taken the city and country by storm over the last few years. The Playground’s, Matt Barbera, has had a huge part in making that happen. A big thank you to Matt for leading the way.
