CIF Reviews and Recap: Part 1

CIF Starts off Strong

Kevin Mullaney_CIFThis week has been filled with some of the greatest improv shows this city has seen so far this year. This festival has taken over 20 stages throughout Chicago over the last five days with over 150 shows and more than 90 teams from all over the world. Chicago Improv Festival (CIF) has been a true Godsend to Chicago improvisers providing the opportunity to not only perform but to have access to teams from all over the world. At Monday night’s Kick Off Party, I got to meet members of JadaJada from Finland and  Improv KAndy from Switzerland. Chit chatted with the lovely people of Chicago Improv Productions and all around had myself a nice little Monday night. As for the rest of the festival, I have had the luxury and pleasure of watching eleven teams perform thus far. This evening I will be attending Second City to watch Meowsers & JED and Beirdo & Jimmy Jet Johnnie, with special guest Scott Adsit. I will also be interview John Lutz and Scott Adsit later this evening, so keep an eye out for that interview next week.

To close up the festival, none other than the Improvised Shakespeare Company will be performing alongside the 30Rock show with John Lutz, Scott Adsit and Kay Cannon tomorrow night at 8pm at Second City. Unfortunately, this show is sold out, so for those of you with tickets, I will see you there.

There are so many things to be said about the teams performing at CIF. Below I have written up a few reviews of some of my favorite performances from the first half of the week and I will be releasing reviews of my favorite performances from Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s lineups in the next few days.

Stay tuned and if you haven’t seen shows yet, you have a few hours left to do so. Don’t miss this opportunity that is standing just outside your doorstep.
